Friends of the Rowlett Library

Who are the “friends”?

“Friends” share a value of knowledge, reading, and literacy, and recognize that libraries are essential elements of a growing, educated, and progressive community.

We are library advocates who, together, MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The Importance of a Library in Our Community

The library plays a unique role in American society as centers for learning, a hub for human interaction, and as safety nets. When our new democratic nation was young, it was no accident that public libraries were established.

A library reflects our civic pride and values we have to:

  • Educate people and support literacy for all ages.

  • Support democracy by providing people with tools to make informed decisions through using reliable sources.

  • Provide a safe and welcoming gathering place where all people of diverse backgrounds can explore and discuss ideas without fear of reprisal or censorship.

  • Offer FREE access to books, ideas, resources, information, and entertainment.

  • Benefit the economy when business people use resources for decision-making, or when employees use the library to improve job skills.
